Superbad wins once again (it also won for best teen comedy earlier this year)! Anyone else surprised to see The Cable Guy sneak in there with five votes? I haven’t seen that in years, but I always thought it was underrated. Apparently I’m not the only one.
This Week’s Poll: As the new year approaches, we are about to enter the “dead zone” of movies. Usually there are slim pickings when it comes to quality titles during this time, but there look to be some decent options next year. Are there any early films you are excited about? How about the unfortunately-delayed Gangster Squad? Maybe the new Die Hard? Let’s hear what you have to say!

Tough call between Anchorman and Superbad… worthy of a close race, certainly.
I have to say… 2013 is looking dismal at this point, LOL.
Hmm, I think a few of these have potential. Hopefully we get something like The Grey or Haywire again this year.
Awesome that Superbad won, I love that movie! I voted for Side Effects and Gangster Squad, though the latter looks kinda like a big mess. On the other hand Gosling and Stone have lovely chemistry so maybe I’ll like it.
Yeah, I’m not sold on Gangster Squad. The cast is impressive, but the trailer looks pretty meh. Hopefully it surprises us!
I agree on your take on Cable Guy, I hold it as one of Carrey’s best, although Matthew Broderick is a bit on the dull side… But Carrey carry the movie himself, making it a hilarious laugh-fest with some great moments of dark humor
Haha yeah, Jim Carrey can definitely carry a movie. I don’t think I have seen The Cable Guy since sometime in the 90s… I really need to look it up again!
The trailer for John Dies at the End look amazing, so I’m going with that. My 2nd choice is,The Place Beyond the Pines, by the director of Blue Valentine, out in March on both sides of the Atlantic.
I saw The Cable Guy in 96, and just rewatched a couple clips on youtube, Jim Carrey gave a great performance, and I agree it’s a totally underrated comedy.
Oh wow, I didn’t realize The Place Beyond the Pines was due for a March release. That didn’t pop up on the schedule I was looking at, unfortunately. That’s one of my most anticipated films as well.
Agreed about John Dies at the End. Looking forward to catching that!
John Dies at the End for me as well, been waiting for that forever it seems. These other films are all kinda meh to me, even Die Hard looks awful; terrible advertising campaign for that. And also in case people don’t know, John Dies at the End can now be ordered On Demand on Comcast, buts its a high $9.99.
Nice, I didn’t know that John Dies at the End is already available on demand. Ten bucks is a little steep, but it’s good to have the option. Thanks for the heads up!
Gangster Squad was an easy one for me to vote for. Second choice? A bit tougher, but went with Die Hard.
Saying that, over here we’ve got Django Unchained and Les Miserables to be released this month. So it’s looking a little bit rosier for me!
Oh wow, I didn’t realize Django and Les Mis weren’t released over there yet. I still haven’t seen them myself, unfortunately, but I plan on finally catching them this weekend.
The Cable Guy is one of the better films with Jim Carrey as part of the cast, so I’m glad it got some love.
I voted for Superbad though I was inclined to pick Bridesmaids. Very close results anyway
I think Superbad would be my top pick, but I had a lot of fun with Bridesmaids as well. Glad that both had strong showings in this poll.
